Operation Spay/Neuter
With Dr. Whitlock, the only vet at CAHS who spays or neuters the rabbits, taking a much needed medical leave of absence until the New Year, we weren't sure how all the adopted rabbits from CAHS were going to be fixed before they went home. That is until Karalee Curry devised a master plan with the help of Karen Winstead.
In record breaking time over a period of just 4 days, we managed to get a total of 13 buns spayed or neutered! 5 males were neutered (Charles, Erwin, Louis, Jessie and Drummer) and 8 females were spayed (Arizona, Loppy, Daisy, Helicopter, Patience, Lydia, Mandy and Lulu) which consisted of lobby rabbits, foster rabbits, room H rabbits and room G rabbits.
There are numerous people to thank for helping to make the project a complete success! First, Karalee and Karen for creating and implementing the idea. Second, our veterinarians and vet technicians who agreed to help us out by quickly fitting the rabbits into their surgery schedules, giving us discounts on the operations and even going as far as to donate their time to perform the surgeries. Special thanks goes to Dr. Ann Crafton and staff at Companion Animal Care in Worthington and Drs. Susan Borders, Lani Herrli and Elizabeth Logan and staff at Norton Road Vet Hospital in Galloway. Without them, this mission could not have been possible.
Last, but definitely not least, are the volunteers who agreed to drop off, pick up and temporarily house the rabbits as they recovered from their surgeries. Many thanks goes to Karalee Curry, Karen Winstead, Terri Cook and our fabulous CAHS vet tech Cathy.
No sooner were the surgeries complete then we had our first adoption. Helicopter went home with her new family on Saturday Nov. 25th. Hooray for Helicopter!
Over this Thanksgiving holiday, I know I am truly thankful for all these kind and generous individuals coming together to do wonderful things for the rabbits at Capital Area Human Society!!

To the MAX!
I picked up my new foster bunny last Saturday. The “Bun Formerly Known as Mosey” came from the Capital Area Humane Society. He was born there in April to Cassandra, a beautiful New Zealand White. He, of course, is not white. He’s a gorgeous silky black with dark chocolate accents. Having been born at the shelter, he’s spent his whole young life in a 2x2 cage. So I expected when I put him in his 4x4 pen in the spare bedroom that he’d be overjoyed with all the space. Oh, not so. Within minutes, he was banging on the pen demanding to be released into the entire room! It was then that we decided his name had to be MAX. Short for Maxwell? Maybe. Maximum is probably the better fit because there is nothing diminutive about this guy! He’s a good size bun, as NZ’s usually are. But his personality and attitude are his biggest assets! He has wasted no time in moving in and taking over. And don’t think he doesn’t know how handsome he is! He’s a charmer, this one! So, we have our own in-house celebrity (just don’t tell him no one’s heard of him yet). It’s Max to the MAX!

Recent Adoptions
While adoptions have been slower the past few months, we are excited that several buns did find wonderful homes!
Christy Palmer adopted Cosby and he is becoming friends with Phoebe and Gracie.
The Petersons adopted Gracie and she has made herself right at home.
Renee Vititoe adopted Robin as a friend for Trixie who recently lost her mate.
The Schweitzers fell in love with Maltilda and welcomed her to their home.
The Babberts had recently lost their rabbit and adopted Jonesy. He had been in foster care for many months so we are all thrilled that dear Jonesy now has his own wonderful home!!
Madelyn moved in with the Rees family and quickly bonded to Hamilton.
Kirby has found a wonderful home with Nancy Neff.
The Weavers adopted Mickey and he is now the resident home office rabbit. He has his own executive chair!
Samson moved to Upper Arlington with the Dalton family and is thriving in his new home.
Kendall now lives with the Niezgoda family and has a fantastic home where he is becoming quite spoiled.
